Honoring Efeso Collins and Lenten Reflection

ree

As we convened for our staff hui, the spirit of remembrance filled the room as we reflected on the invaluable contributions of Efeso Collins and the profound impact his voice had on Aotearoa. In a time where diversity of thought and experience is crucial in governance, Collins exemplified the essence of representation and advocacy for underrepresented communities. His absence is deeply felt, reminding us of the importance of fostering platforms for diverse voices to be heard in shaping our nation's future.

Watch Efeso give his powerful maiden speech only a week before his passing.

Following this poignant tribute, Peter Sampson guided our reflections towards a different kind of weight—the weight we carry within ourselves. As Lent beckons us to introspection, Peter prompted us to choose a stone, symbolising the burdens we carry, and to reflect on how we navigate and address them. Each member felt the tangible weight of their chosen stone before placing it in the center, a collective acknowledgment of the burdens we share and the solidarity in confronting them.
