This week at our staff hui, we were joined by Aimee, Mark, and Fraser from Hamilton City Council’s Nature in the City team. Their visit offered us a reminder of the vital role our own Wairaakau restoration programme plays in restoring the health and resilience of our local ecosystems.
Aimee, Mark, and Fraser spoke about the importance of native habitats within our urban spaces and how fragile these ecosystems can be. Our gullies and waterways are home to countless species that depend on our ongoing care. Simple actions like controlling invasive plants and reporting pest sightings all help sustain this vital mahi.
This hui was a reminder that the future of our city’s natural spaces is in our hands. Through initiatives like Wairaakau and the ongoing collaboration with Hamilton City Council, we can help ensure Kirikiriroa remains a thriving, green, and life-filled home for our native species.
Ngā mihi nui to Ishmael and the team, and to our friends at Hamilton City Council for their dedication and partnership in this shared vision for a flourishing environment.
