This morning’s staff hui was filled with learning and storytelling. We began by learning the waiata He Aha Kei Taku Uma, a reminder of the strength we carry within and the collective spirit that binds us together.
We were then privileged to receive a full and heartfelt presentation from Matua Pine, who shared about the upcoming Makarika School Centenary, to be celebrated over Waitangi Weekend 2026. Matua spoke with warmth and pride about his intimate involvement with the school and the Makarika Valley, weaving in personal memories of growing up there as a boy. His reflections highlighted the strong sense of place, community, and whakapapa that continues to shape both the valley and its people.
For many of us, it was more than a presentation - it was an invitation into a story of belonging and history, reminding us of the importance of celebrating our histories while building for the generations ahead. The centenary promises to be a momentous occasion of gathering, remembering, and honouring the legacy of Makarika School.
