Manaaki Mai Greenhouse Project — Growing Together, Nurturing Change

At Manaaki Mai, we’re proud to share the story of our newly commissioned community greenhouse — a project built with heart, teamwork, and creativity.

What makes this greenhouse truly special is not just its purpose, but how it came to life. Constructed largely from repurposed and donated materials — including wooden pallets and Plastic — the build was a genuine labour of love. A small amount of money was spent on the plastic corrugated panels. The tangata whaiora and staff of Manaaki Mai worked side by side, contributing their time, skills, and ideas. Progress was steady and patient, as materials were gathered and construction advanced step by step — a reflection of resilience and shared vision.

The greenhouse now stands as a vibrant hub of growth and learning. It will nurture flower and vegetable seedlings to beautify our surroundings, while also offering opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful activity, learn some practical horticultural skills, and explore pathways that may lead to employment or personal development.

Beyond that, it provides a safe home for potted plants through the colder months, ensuring that Manaaki Mai continues to bloom year-round.

Accompanying this post are photos capturing the journey — from humble beginnings and hands-on teamwork to the flourishing space it has become today.

Together, we’ve shown that with patience, purpose, and community spirit, even the simplest materials can grow into something truly meaningful.
